[6039s] Google Play (I think) wakelock issue

I can't figure this out to save my life.

In the middle of the day today I suddenly started getting a horrendous wakelock. I think it's related to the Google Play Store.

But I can't shake it.

It came out of nowhere. Phone has been working fine since I got it. It's Anrdoid 6, never rooted. 6039s 5.7 inch version.

Wakelock started about 4 hours ago.

It appears to be related to to Play Store because that app won't open. When I try to open it it bogs the system down to a crawl, but never fully runs. If I uninstall the Play Store updates it runs fine for about 5 minutes, until the app automatically updates itself in the background again, then it goes to hell again. I can't get into the app to look at app settings or anything.

I tried disabling Google Play app in app manager but it re-enables itself on its own. (I swear to god it ought to be a law that phones can be easily rooted with a simple toggle in settings so I could solve this in 12 seconds myself)

I tried clearing the cache in the stock recovery but I'm pretty sure that doesn't actually work because the phone boots right up afterwards and doesn't do the "App 1 of 82 is updating" thing you should get after clearing cache.

I've individually cleared cache and data for Google Play Store and Google Play Services. And uninstalled updates to both.

Again, everything works fine for about 5 minutes after that. Then back to broken.

Is there a non root way to block play store and service updates? Or a way to totally shut them off so at least I have a working phone while I scream at Alcatel customer service to give me a new one?

Was there an update to the Play store today? Is anyone else having this problem?

I can't figure this out. If I can't get it solved, I'm going to make Alcatel give me a new phone as this one is only a month old.

But right now my phone is completely unusable. The battery lasts about 25 minutes form a full charge. It's so hot it feels like it's going to melt. The system is so bogged down I can't do the simplest of tasks.
