Installing system apps as user apps = save space?

Hello,
I'm in a battle with my 16gb galaxy s4 (well, more like 8gb actually) over free space.
I'm using FolderMount to move/mount some big apps and files to the sd card.
Suddenly I remembered that, once updated, system apps can be replaced by their factory version.
Doesn't that mean that the factory version of every system app is stored on the device?
If so, couldn't I gain some space by uninstalling some system apps (like some google apps) and reinstalling them as user apps?
Thanks in advance,
